Abstract

This study investigates Prophetic Tarassul (the art of epistolary writing) as a foundational literary genre and a political discourse possessing a highly sophisticated semiotic structure. It elucidates the concept of semiotics and its analytical methodology, focusing on the nature of Prophetic Tarassul and its evolution from oral transmission to codified written form. The study reveals the strategies of influence and persuasion embedded within Prophetic epistolary discourse, examining the Prophet's (peace be upon him) method of lexical selection and syntactic construction, strategies that advanced political, religious, and humanitarian objectives for the nascent Islamic state. The researcher adopted a descriptive analytical methodology, employing the semiotic approach as the primary framework for reading Prophetic epistolary discourse, while also drawing upon other methodological approaches as necessitated by the analysis. The study concludes that Prophetic Tarassul established an early model characterized by fixed conventions and quasi-artistic traditions for a prose genre and a political epistolary discourse that integrates linguistic semiotics, communicative efficacy, and semantic profundity.
