Abstract

This study aims to provide a rhetorical and semantic analysis of the hadith of Ḍimām ibn Thaʿlabah, known as the hadith of the Wise Bedouin. The study focuses on how structure is employed in the dialogic style, systematic repetition, and logical progression to build certainty in the recipient (the Bedouin) and to consolidate the practical pillars of Islam. Using a method of rhetorical and semantic analysis and employing certain mechanisms of the stylistic method, the study deconstructs the layers of the text and its syntactic coherence to reveal the rhetorical and semantic dimensions underlying the linguistic choices. The study concludes that the hadith is not merely a transmission of information, but rather an integrated educational model based on the active participation of the recipient in building his own convictions. This makes it a unique text with superior communicative efficiency, characterized by gradual rational persuasion, then the use of emphasis through verification questions, then personal commitment on the part of the Bedouin, and concluding with the Prophetic commentary giving glad tidings of entering Paradise. It also makes repetition in the text a tool for building certainty, and indeed a methodology that works to consolidate and confirm information and elevate it to the level of absolute certainty for the addressee, based on response and practical commitment.
