This study aims to identify and diagnose the status of academics' use of social media platforms for scholarly publishing in their specializations in Yemeni universities, to monitor their motivations and attitudes towards using social media platforms, to uncover the obstacles that limit their media presence in the digital space, and to identify the most useful platform for scholarly publishing in Yemeni society. The study used the descriptive method based on collecting and analyzing data from sources and references related to the study topic. A questionnaire was applied to a random sample of (34) academics from faculty members and supporting staff at the University of Saba Region. The study reached several results, most notably: academics have accounts on social media platforms, but they do not use them effectively to publish their content. This gap indicates the existence of institutional, administrative, and technical obstacles that prevent the transformation of digital presence into actual scholarly activity, as demonstrated by the study. It also found that the motivations and attitudes of academics towards using social media platforms are very positive, but there are some obstacles that prevent them from doing so; the strongest of which are institutional and cultural obstacles, followed by some administrative obstacles, then technical obstacles. The study proved that YouTube is the most useful platform for scholarly publishing in Yemeni society, followed by Facebook. In light of these results, the study presented a number of recommendations, the most important of which are: encouragement of the academics by the institutions to which they belong, seeking funding to provide them with the necessary resources to produce attractive scholarly content, and organizing workshops, seminars, and training courses that emphasize the importance of social media platforms and how to deal with them.
